Dinners at some of the finest steakhouses in New York City found unexpected charges on their credit card bills after employees stole there card information. At least 50 people had their identity stolen by waiters who used the information to purchase and resell expensive items.

In the last year and a half, at least 50 diners had their card information stolen by a ring trying to purchase and resell luxury goods, according to the indictments.
The 28 people who were indicted used high-tech skimmers to extract the credit card information of patron of the restaurants. They would then make counterfeit credit and id cards in order to purchase other items for their gain. The 18 moth investigation ended in criminal indictments in the Manhattan State Supreme Court.
